So the teams get picked and one of the guys on my team immediately starts bitching about how our captain picked crappy teams and the teams are unfair.

Honestly, the teams might have been unfair but I am use to being an underdog and loved the challenge. It really didn’t sit well with me that a guy on my team was throwing in the towel mentally before the game even began.

Once the game started that particular guy was clearly not giving 100% and the sad part was he was our most talented player and we only ended up losing by 3 points 11-8.

Imagine if this guy gave 100% and relished the challenge of playing a more talented team rather than just saying the teams are unfair and then tanking it.

Why do people think like this? It’s beyond me. I never really care who’s on my team because I love challenges and I love to overcome despite circumstances.

Bottom line is don’t make excuses and work hard. That way at the end of the day, win or lose, you can say that you gave it your all and you can feel good about yourself and know deep down you did everything you could to win.

I meet some great folks there and even had a chance to sneak off for a couple hours to get a little taste of “Philly” But more on that in a bit. Here’s just a short list of the great folks I got to spend time with:

Another highlight of the event was the great party Jeff Dedrick put on in his private suite on Friday and Saturday night. As for the speakers, there were some good ones there but my favorite speaker far and away was Yanik Silver. This guy is so smooth and he speaks in a way that’s easy to understand and very enjoyable to listen to. Usually when I go to seminars I try to step out on the town for at least a couple hours to see the city im in. It’s no fun to be stuck in a hotel conference room for hours on end. In Philidelphia I got to eat an Authentic Philly Cheese Steak at a place called Pat’s King of Steaks. It was quite yummy.

I also got to see the famous Rocky Statue from the famous series of movies. The statue sits at the bottom steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art which I didnt get to see, but hopefully next time i’m in town i’ll get to venture inside.

There’s a lesson I have learned from basketball that I really try and apply to my life and business. If I make a mistake forget about it and move on. If I miss an easy layup, if I make a bad pass, if my team loses 5 games in a row… I try and learn from it and MOVE ON!

For me it’s natural to dwell on the negative… there’s been times when i’m playing a game and i’m still angry and thinking about a bad play I made in a previous game. This is without a doubt is NOT ideal.

It was killing my internal game. So much of sports is mental too. Most great players in any sport have a good head. So I have made a huge effort to try and learn from my mistakes, and just simply forget about em.

Everybody in this world is going to take their knocks with sports, family, work, friends, whatever. Learn from the expereience and MOVE ON!!!!

With life being so short, I can’t understand how people move off to other parts of the country or even world leaving their family and friends behind. I wouldent miss my 3 month old nephew growing up for the world. Or my grandmother at 86 years old still fiesty as ever, or spending time with my 2 brothers playing catch or whatever it is.

Maybe i’m a homebody? A family man? Or a Moma’s boy? Maybe you can help me shed light on this. I think family is one of the most important things we have in this world. How can people spend months or even years of their lives being away from them?
